Photo Metadata Viewer & Remover

Photos from phones and cameras carry hidden details: often the exact spot where they were taken, the time, the device and its serial number. See everything a photo gives away, then remove it in one click without touching the picture itself.

Drop photos here, or select to choose them
JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF, up to 50 at a time. Nothing is uploaded: your browser reads and cleans them.
What these options do
  • Rotation: phones often save photos sideways with a note saying "turn this 90°". Removing that note can make the photo show sideways, so we keep only that one setting (it reveals nothing about you).
  • Colour profile: describes the colours the photo was saved in (such as Display P3 on iPhones). Removing it can make colours look duller. It doesn't contain personal details.

What's hidden in a photo?

  • Location: most phones save the GPS position when location is on for the camera, often accurate to a few metres. That can reveal your home, your children's school or where you are right now.
  • Device details: the make, model, lens and sometimes serial numbers, which can link different photos to the same camera.
  • Dates and times the photo was taken and edited, and the software used.
  • Names: author, copyright and owner fields, captions and keywords added by editing apps.
  • A hidden preview: a small copy of the photo. Some editors don't update it, so it can show what was cropped out.
  • AI tools: PNGs from some image generators store the prompt and settings used.

How removal works

We remove the blocks that hold the details and copy the picture data across byte for byte, so there's no re-compression and no loss of quality. JPEG, PNG and WebP files are rebuilt without those blocks. In HEIC and AVIF files the details are blanked out in place, which keeps the file the same size.

  • Sharing tips: many social networks remove location when you post, but email, cloud links and sending a photo "as a file" or "as a document" in messaging apps usually keep everything.
  • On iPhone, select Options at the top of the share sheet and turn off Location before sharing.
  • To stop it at source, turn off saving location in your camera app's settings.
  • On Windows, right-click a photo, then Properties > Details > Remove Properties and Personal Information.

Motion-photo videos and extra pictures stored after a JPEG (such as depth maps) are removed too, as they can hold the same details.
