MAC Address Vendor Lookup

Who made that unknown device on your network? Paste a MAC address, or a whole ARP table, DHCP lease list or switch output, and we'll name the manufacturer of each one from the official IEEE registry.

Find MAC addresses with arp -a or ipconfig /all (Windows), ip neigh (Linux), your router's list of connected devices, or your DHCP server.

About MAC addresses

  • A MAC address identifies a network connection on your local network. The first half (the OUI) is registered to the manufacturer by the IEEE.
  • The vendor is who made the network chip, which isn't always the brand on the box: a smart TV might show as its Wi-Fi chip maker.
  • MAC addresses never travel across the internet, so they can't identify a device online, only on your own network.

Random and virtual addresses

  • Private (randomised) addresses: phones, tablets and laptops now make up a different MAC for each Wi-Fi network to stop tracking. These have the "locally administered" bit set and no manufacturer.
  • Virtual machines use their hypervisor's range (VMware, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, KVM), which we point out.
  • Unknown device? Check your router for its name, then block it or change your Wi-Fi password if you don't recognise it.
