What is a CUPID?

A CUPID (Communications Provider Identity code) is the short code Ofcom gives every UK communications provider — landline, mobile and VoIP. It's used behind the scenes for number allocation and porting, so a number can be traced to the provider that holds it. It used to be called a LOPID (Licenced Operator Identity code).

Why look one up?

To put a name to a provider code you've seen in porting data, a number-range record or a CLI report — useful when a VoIP or wholesale number doesn't obviously show who runs it.

About the data

Straight from Ofcom's numbering data (the official CUPID list), refreshed on our server about once a month. It's published under the Open Government Licence.

This is the provider ↔ code list. It doesn't tell you which provider owns a specific phone number — that's a separate, much larger Ofcom dataset.
